I agree. UK Boot fitting does seem to be moving in the right direction.

The other consideration is that boot fitting is a process and it may take more than one visit to get the 'perfect' fit. It's important to factor in the prospect of follow up visits when selecting your Boot Fitter and may be a trip or two to your local indoor or dry slope.

It really good to hear about good boot fitters, there are not many in the UK. Your chap in Bicester seems to be worth visiting. My feet are probably the worst feet you have ever seen, I used to have knee and lower back pain and I was close to giving up skiing because of the pain. I was recomended to a shop in Reading called altimus, they are amazing. They have an instore podiatrist who fitted me for ski boots, but also determined that I needed a special insert, not the usual ski insert but a medicaly corrective orthotic.
My skiing was great (the first time ive been able to ski without pain in years) but more importantly I now use my orthotic in my other shoes. What a difference. I can not recomend altimus enough. If solution for feet are as good as altimus then the UK's boot fitting expertise is moving in the right direction.

The new 'Clip Fix' arrived and I fitted them over the New Year holiday. The unit is currently being tested by my parents and I'll let you know how they get on with it.
Based on my experience so far it's hard to justify spending the UK pound price on the unit. I'll add another blog entry soon with my reasoning.

Thats odd that Samuel is having problems with the company. When I emailed them to say that my composter wasn't working they sent a replacement circuit board. When that didn't work, they promptly sent out a replacement unit, which seems to be working fine. I don't think I gave them my serial number at all. The "juice" you say is leaking is explained in the manual, did you read that? I think its an excellent product and company and I would be happy to recommend them to anyone. It took me a while to get used to the "grossness factor" but since I got the composter I've made some great mulch to add to my outdoor plants and flowers and their vibrant growth through 3 seasons with my doing very little otherwise, seems to be working! Glad I can put my kitchen scraps to good use!

I urge anyone reading this not to ever consider buying this piece of garbage "so called composter". This whole thing is a scam. My compster has never worked and they do not support the product at all. They refuse to talk to you unless you carry your composter serial number wherever you go. My composter leaks some sort of toxic juice all over my kitchen floor and has never worked. This product and this company are the worst. They ripped my off for $400 don't let the same thing happen to you.

Hello from Dallas, Texas. Thanks for posting your experiences with your composter. I just bought the same one about a month ago, and its still in the mixing phase. I have yet to transfer it, but soon! I'm finding that it takes a lot of compost to fill up since most of it evaporates! THe smell has gotten better as more of it gets mixed in and it smells like coffee brewing now. It still makes a loud popping sound, which I hear is normal, so we'll see. I got sawdust at the local hardware store. The employees thought I was crazy, as they had to dig it out of their trash to give it to me. I'll be checking your blog from time to time to see how your experience goes!

    About the Avaluator.

In my view, ANYTHING that gets folk to think a bit and to err on the side of caution is probably a good product. Probably the only thing that may hold back this particular tool, is getting into enough hands early enough.

When avalanche problems arise, it's never the avalanche, it's the people. I know, because only last season I skied a passage and on completing it, looked up and realised how stupid I'd been.

Perhaps the one good aspect of this dismal affair was that at least it didn't become a positive reinforcement. That's another problem - 95% of the time snow is safe anyway, so every time you get away with it, you're at risk of thinking you're pretty smart. When you aren't.

Thanks for your comment - My first 'real' one I think !

I've started to experiment with different types of "saw dust" and have just done a batch with some wood chippings that were produced from some pruning we had done in the Winter. The result is encouraging as the small is more acceptable then the pet bedding sawdust that I had been using. Full post to follow.
